Kids love Scooby Doo. Created in 1969, this animated mystery series is an excellent choice of party theme as both the little ones and their parents can get in on the fun. Guests can have a blast recalling the great monsters and mysteries Scooby and his pals have foiled through the years. However, one thing is no mystery; you’ll need plenty of Scooby snacks to keep this party rolling. Consider baking cookies in the shape of dog treats, ghosts and witches. Of course, you’ll also want to have some party games to keep the young and old sleuths occupied.
Scooby and the Phantom Have your guests form a circle around the room, with hands joined. A ""phantom"" is chosen to stand outside the circle, and ""Scooby Doo"" is to stand inside. The guests forming the circle are Scooby’s pals, and raise their arms to let him under, but keep them down when the phantom tries to get through to catch poor Scooby. The phantom chases Scooby wherever he may run, until he is caught, when a new Scooby and phantom are chosen. For added variety, give new names to the phantoms, such as Wolfman, Frankenstein or Bigfoot. For large parties, you might consider selecting more than one phantom and Scooby.
Ghost Chase Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma are parked in the Mystery Machine enjoying a nice, peaceful lunch. They hear the eerie sound of ghosts moving towards the Mystery Machine. Velma suggests that they wait until the ghosts are very near the van and then capture as many as they can. Select five guests to play Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma. The remainder of the guests are to be ghosts. If they are tagged, they must help Scooby and friends in the next round. Should the ghosts escape to the safety of the forest, they will remain as ghosts in the next round.
Scooby Doo is among Saturday morning’s most recognizable characters. Why not use this fun, lovable cast of friends to create an exciting and fun party that will have your guests laughing and talking until well after the last mystery is solved, plot is foiled and Scooby snack is devoured?
